Local musician Grant King began exploring with acrylic paint on canvas just months ago in December 2025, and started sharing his creations with friends on social media. The positive response to Grant's colourful and expressive interpretations of Newfoundland landscapes has been enthusiastic and encouraging.
Ranging in size from 9"x11" to a few larger pieces up to 20"x20", Grant has produced more than 100 completed works in various styles since he began. This exhibition, PIVOT, will showcase approximately 25-30 of the originals for sale, all with custom wood frames by Ashley Chalmers. The collection will be on display at The Pearl Market, downtown, St. John's, from Sunday, August 16, 2026 until early October. Prints and custom orders will also be available.
This is certainly an abrupt creative shift, and why the show is simply named PIVOT. To those who know Grant as an artist, it is not surprising he would be able to pick up on something completely new and just run with it. A graduate of the renowned Berklee College of Music, he is an award-winning jazz recording artist, composer, producer, and sound engineer. As a musician and collaborator, well known for working with artists like Jody Richardson, Kellie Loder and Tim Baker, Grant King is widely respected for his open minded and broad spectrum improvisational abilities. This perspective, impeccable skills, and a general good nature that supports the creative process is why so many people want to work with him.
It is also why we can't hate him for just being so darn good at stuff. The Pearl Market is very proud to host Grant King's debut exhibition as a painter. We welcome everyone who has been enjoying the ongoing reveal on Facebook to come see these babies in person!
