Grant Writing for Artists With Paul Heckler

Workshop Description:
Paul will walk you through the basics of developing proposals for grant funding from foundations, arts councils, and government agencies. He’ll also give an overview of philanthropic funding and how to partner with nonprofits. We’ll look at real applications together and discuss strategies for finding opportunities, generating narratives, developing budgets and portfolios, managing timelines, stewarding relationships, and more. There will be ample time for questions, discussion, and for troubleshooting your grant challenges.
Biography:
Paul is a ceramicist and nonprofit strategist currently pursuing an MFA in the Appalachian Mountains. He has 14 years of leadership experience at some of New York City’s most innovative civic and cultural organizations—including the High Line, World Monuments Fund, and the Public Theater. In 2021, he launched a consulting practice that helps organizations, curators, and artists pursue funding for their projects. In the studio, Paul works in soda-fired earthenware and gets super nerdy about functional pots and craft media.
