Description

Members of Catawba Riverkeeper are invited to join us for the last chance to hike and paddle the southern section of the Catawba River between Fishing Creek Lake and Lake Wateree in Great Falls before the water is restored to this area in 2023 to create a whitewater recreation area!

This outing will be hosted by Riverkeeper's Engagement Manager Greg Nance and local Great Falls legend and County Commissioner Mike Vaughn. They will guide guests through a 3-mile kayak tour across Stumpy Pond and a 1-mile hike on the old wagon road on Mountain Island out onto the bedrock of the dry riverbed to celebrate the water returning after over a century in 2023. The next island over called Big Island will become a state park in the future. Greg and Mike will talk about this history of the area and the exciting plans that are in development in this part of the Catawba-Wateree Basin!

You may rent a single or tandem kayak with accompanying gear or bring your own kayak.

Restrictions:

  • Must be 12 years of age to participate with an adult.
