Description

by Troy Ginter

Director ~ Angela Butler

Producers ~ Louise Renault and Cheryl Theriault

 Technical Director ~ Bill Barnaby

The Purity biscuits are open and the tea is hot.  The kitchen window glows with coastal and village scenes… (recorded in Newfoundland by Technical Director,  Bill Barnaby).

Inspired by his grandmother’s teapot, Ginter has created compelling characters and complicated relationships that are part of all small towns where everyone knows everyone (and their business).

Frankie returns home after the death of her grandmother Mel.  It’s in Mel’s tired kitchen that the best tea is brewed and relationships are rehashed and rekindled as the community explores the impact of change and loss.

A charming cameo by Michele Moore reading “The Magic Tea Kettle” by T Ching leads beautifully into the one act Great Kettle For the People which  began it’s life as a Fringe show and received rave reviews.

Starring: Cathy Cameron as Faye, Eileen Carey as Belles, Rob McIntyre as Paul, Wendy Hutt as Sil, Chana Tikvah as Frankie and Jillian Wrightson as Bea.

Theatre Arts Guild

The Theatre Arts Guild is proud to be the country’s oldest community theatre with a record of continuous operation. The Guild was founded in 1931 (through a merger of the Little Theatre Movement and the Halifax Dramatic and Musical Club), and has presented entertainment each year since then.

“The Dover Road,” by A.A. Milne was the group’s first production in May of 1931, and was given at the Garrick Theatre (the present Neptune Theatre),  since the group did not have a permanent home. “Dover Road” was repeated for TAG’s 60th Anniversary in 1991.

Over the years, the Guild has had several homes and performed in many venues, including the Capitol Theatre, the former College Street School, and the gymnasium of HMCS Scotian and St. Patrick’s High School. In 1966 however, the Guild acquired a former church hall at 6 Parkhill Road and this property, renamed The Pond Playhouse, has been its home ever since.
