Celebrating its 27th season, Musicians of Ma’alwyck brings history to life through music,
offering distinctive chamber music experiences throughout New York’s Greater Capital
Region. Under the leadership of violinist and the Chet and Karen Opalka General and
Artistic Director Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz, the ensemble connects exceptional
performances with the people, places, and stories that shaped our past.
In residence at Schuyler Mansion New York State Historic Site and SUNY Schenectady,
Musicians of Ma’alwyck creates thoughtfully researched programs that pair familiar
masterworks with rarely heard musical treasures. Its performances invite audiences to
discover music within a broader cultural context, transforming historic spaces and concert
venues into settings for storytelling, exploration, and connection.
The ensemble’s artistic reach extends beyond the concert stage. Featured on NPR and
Public Television, Musicians of Ma’alwyck has contributed music to documentaries and
performed by invitation for television producer Norman Lear in celebration of his purchase
of a rare copy of the Declaration of Independence. Its recordings include Music in the
Schuyler Mansion and Hyde Hall and The Silver Goddess. The group also champions
contemporary music through commissions and an ongoing collaboration with composer
Max Caplan, whose works are the focus of a forthcoming recording. https://musiciansofmaalwyck.org/
