2027 will bring a new Governor, new members of the California Senate and Assembly, and an important opportunity to make affordable homeownership a priority from the very beginning of a new legislative session.
At Advocacy Day, Habitat leaders, staff, homeowners, and advocates from across California will come together at the State Capitol to educate lawmakers about the critical role homeownership plays in addressing California’s housing shortage and to advocate for the policies and resources needed to build more affordable homes.
In addition to the introduction of Habitat-specific legislation, a top priority will be securing CalHome funding in the 2027–28 State Budget. Regardless of the outcome of Proposition 1, The Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act that includes $600 million for CalHome, the program still remains the only dedicated source of funding for affordable homeownership production and preservation, and renewed investment is essential to keeping Habitat and other nonprofit homebuilders moving projects forward across the state.
Advocacy Day participants will learn about Habitat California’s 2027 legislative and budget priorities, connect with peers from affiliates throughout the state, and meet directly with legislators and their staff to share Habitat’s impact and advocate for solutions that expand access to affordable homeownership.
