In a world dominated by digital communication, reconnecting with the art of handwriting can enrich our self-expression and memory. Stef Alicia McCalmon, a passionate cursive artist with a legacy of handwritten artistry from her mother and grandmother, believes in the power of writing to ground and remind us of our humanity. In this engaging workshop, we’ll explore how the fluidity of cursive can intertwine with the beats and rhythms of hip hop, creating a vibrant space for personal expression and community connection.

About Stef Alicia McCalmon:
Stef Alicia McCalmon, the force behind susielightyear studio, is a cursive artist and educator. She creates home and office goods that feature her signature handwritten flair inherited from her mother and maternal grandmother. Her products are invitations to be present with your personal, communal, cultural, and spiritual moments. She creates content and facilitates workshops to make cursive education more accessible.

Public Programming & Membership: Contact felicia@museumofdesign.org / *To purchase tickets as a member, be sure to first login using your SimpleTix account. Not sure how to do it, scroll down or visit the faq page on our website. 

Accessibility: Designers with different styles of learning or special needs are welcome in MODA public programs. We will be able to most effectively help everyone learn and enjoy this experience if we know about those needs in advance of the program. Please email miranda@museumofdesign.org with questions or information.

Cancellation Policy: MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if the minimum enrollment requirements are not met, but don't worry: should MODA have to cancel, we will gladly issue a full refund to all registrants. If you need to cancel your plans for any reason, we kindly request that you notify us at least 7 days prior to the event start. By doing so, we can process a refund for the ticket cost (minus a small $10 processing fee per class). Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made less than 7 days before an event.‌

Follow these instructions to update your SimpleTix account:

  • Click ‘Register Now’
  • In the Bottom Right Corner
  • Click ‘Login Now’ next to ‘Have a SimpleTix account?’ (We’ve created your account, you simply need to complete it)
  • Enter your email address associated with your MODA membership
  • Click 'Forgot My Password'
  • Follow the new email prompts to set up your new password
  • Login with your password
  • Select the event you wish to Register
  • Select quantity of tickets
  • Add to cart
  • Your discount should be applied
