Celebrate Black History Month!
This film is a featured film in our Black History Month programming for February. The Herbert Jeffries series were the first "black cowboy" movies that are corrected the Hollywood image of an Old West that was all-white. Jeffries was originally going to distribute the first film "Harlem on the Prairie" independently to black cinemas, but Gene Autry helped him get national distribution, and it became the highest grossing film with an all-African American cast. Jeffries starred in several sequels, starting with "Harlem Rides the Range."
Each film is about 50 minutes, and is an early entry into the "singing cowboy" genre.
