Healing Through Clarity: Al-Furqan — The Criterion
A Healing Sisterhood Session
How do we learn to recognize the truth when falsehood is beautifully packaged?
How do we develop Al-Furqan, the criterion that allows us to distinguish between truth and falsehood, especially while living through a time filled with fitnah, confusion, social media, opinions, and constant influence?
In this two-hour Healing Sisterhood session, we will revisit Surah Al-Furqan and reflect on the ayat that teach us about the qualities, mindset, and character of those who can navigate life with clarity and discernment.
We will explore what it means to be like Al-Farooq, Umar ibn Al-Khattab رضي الله عنه, whose clarity and strength in recognizing truth became so remarkable that Shaytan would take another path rather than the path of Umar.
We will also learn from the stories of the Prophets and Messengers, the Sahabah رضي الله عنهم, and people from our own time, including Malcolm X, looking at moments when individuals encountered truth, recognized it, and had the courage to follow it.
We will discuss how we can develop this quality in our own lives:
• How do we distinguish truth from falsehood?
• How can emotions, attachments, fear, and our own desires affect our ability to see clearly?
• How does social media shape what we believe is true?
• How do we recognize fitnah when it is presented in an attractive or convincing way?
• How do we know when we need to question something we have always believed?
• What does it mean to follow the truth even when it is difficult?
• How can we use the Qur’an and Sunnah as our criterion when the world around us is full of conflicting messages?
And most importantly, we will reflect on this beautiful du’a:
اللهم أرنا الحق حقًا وارزقنا اتباعه، وأرنا الباطل باطلًا وارزقنا اجتنابه
“O Allah, show us the truth as truth and grant us the ability to follow it, and show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the ability to avoid it.”
