In the culmination of an exciting week-plus of hockey, two Ontario Hockey League rivals look to achieve junior glory in the Memorial Cup Final, as the Saginaw Spirit take on the London Knights.

The Knights got to this point by being the only team to go through the round-robin unbeaten. After a couple of differing wins over the Moose Jaw Warriors and Drummondville Voltigeurs, London needed a couple of late goals by Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan to win this past Wednesday against the Spirit, punching their ticket directly to the championship game. They have seen great performances by the likes of Denver Barkey, Ruslan Gazizov and goaltender Michael Simpson.
The Knights are looking to win a third Memorial Cup on Sunday, and the first since their dramatic overtime win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in Red Deer back in 2016. They are 2-1 in Memorial Cup Finals, with their lone loss coming int 2012 at the hands of the Shawinigan Cataractes.
The Spirit shook off the loss to London with style by putting forth a dominating performance against the Warriors in the semifinals. Led by Ethan Hay and Rodwin Dionicio’s four-point outings, Saginaw ran away with a 7-1 win, and are now 3-1 in the tournament.

The Spirit are looking for their first Memorial Cup title. Saginaw is looking to become the 12th host team, since 1983, to have won the tournament. The Saint John Sea Dogs last accomplished the feat two years ago.
This is fifth time two OHL teams have played in the Memorial Cup Final, and the first since the host Windsor Spitfires defeated the Erie Otters in 2017.
Along with the win last Wednesday, the Knights are 7-4 against the Spirit. The two teams split the four regular-season meetings before the Knights beat the Spirit in the Western Conference Final in six games.
