High Holy Days at Congregation Or Shalom
We are so excited to gather together once again to celebrate our New Year and all that it can bring! Each year, when we hear the call of the shofar, when we taste our apples and honey, when we smell the foods of our holiday gatherings, and when we see the faces of family and friends and community, we invite ourselves to return to a state of mind that we reserve for our High Holy Days. This is the time to be in touch with the person that each of us strives to be, and it provides us the chance to re-align our habits and choices to become a bit more like that person.
These holidays also give us the chance to connect and reconnect with family and friends and community. Whether you have just joined our Or Shalom family, have been here since the beginning, or are coming to Or Shalom for the first time, we look forward to welcoming you home for the holidays. In order to celebrate in our home, we do need to have two different service shifts for many of the services, but we will also be experimenting with creating space elsewhere in our building for gathering, so we can connect with one another.

Our Venue
Congregation Or Shalom, located in the serene surroundings of Vernon Hills, Illinois, provides the perfect setting for this solemn yet joyful occasion. Known for its warm and welcoming community, Or Shalom is a place where everyone, regardless of their level of Jewish knowledge or observance, can feel at home.
What to Expect
The evening will include traditional prayers, songs, and readings, led by our esteemed Rabbi and Cantor. A highlight of the evening is the blowing of the Shofar, a symbolic call to introspection and repentance. While the proceedings are spiritual and solemn, the atmosphere is one of unity, hope, and joy.
Who Should Attend
This event is open to everyone, regardless of their Jewish background or level of observance. Whether you are deeply rooted in Jewish tradition, a newcomer to the faith, or simply interested in experiencing a meaningful Jewish ritual, you are warmly welcome to join us for High Holy Day services.
