Description
Join us in a celebration of four decades of dancing, lifelong friendships, and shared dreams.
The Honolulu Dance Studio and Boogie Down Hawaii have carried on the legacy of contemporary and hip hop dance in Hawaiʻi for forty years. Both Cathy Watson-Izumi and Jared Ake sought to carry the torch passed down from their mentors—Danceworks founders Simeon Den and Marie Takazawa, and Jazz Factory founder Pam Sandridge—along with so many other renowned pillars of dance education and mentorship (Miss Elizabeth Miller, Mara Bacon-Chang, Elsie Anderson, Cecilia Chun).
Featured tonight is a joyous celebration of life as a dancer in Hawaiʻi, and a loving tribute to our ʻohana now in formation in heaven’s finalé.
It is truly a God-given blessing that we are able to share life through dance and dance through life.
The steps of a dancer never cease, as the rhythm carries us together, synchronized toward eternity.
Cathy Watson-Izumi
