Join us to learn about military heroism today and yesterday, plus connect with Veteran support.

Major Ben Nichols will speak about Colorado's military history, the current military footprint in Colorado, its historical significance and veterans in our community. The USO will hold a donation drive and share the programs that support their 4 pillars: USO Unites, USO Entertains, USO Delivers, and USO Transitions.

Speaker Details:
Major Ben Nichols retired after 24 years of service in the United States Army and the Colorado Army National Guard. He is a disabled combat Veteran of 2 wars, a second generation Infantrymen, Paratrooper, and member of the 1st Special Forces Regiment, following in the footsteps of his father, Lieutenant Colonel Alfred G. Nichols III who was decorated 8 times for valor and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Additionally, Major Nichols is a former Ski Trooper of Colorado’s own 10th Mountain Division. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and the parachutist badge, amongst many other awards. In addition to his two combat tours, Major Nichols has travelled to over 2 dozen countries as an Army officer and has been assigned to foreign embassies in Slovenia and the Kingdom of Jordan. Major Nichols retired from service in May 2021. He has since worked as an advisor to the Governor of Colorado and currently serves as the Director of Operations for the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice. Major Nichols lives with his wife Yevgeniya, their dog Mutombo, and cat Assata. He is an avid runner, reader, craft beer lover, history buff, and passionate Denver Nuggets fan.

Mission

The Mission of the Conifer Historical Society and Museum is to share the region's legacy by collecting, preserving and exhibiting historical and cultural materials.

Background Statement

One day, a group of Conifer residents was sitting around the dinner table together and the topic of history came up. "Do you remember who used to live on that house way down on Kuester Road? What about that old Cemetery off Pleasant Park Road? Do you know anything about that?" And so the discussion went, and The Conifer Historical Society and Museum was born. Incorporated in January 2009, we have grown and now call the former Conifer Junction Schoolhouse our home. Our purpose now is to share the region's legacy by collecting, preserving and exhibiting historical and cultural materials and provide public access to services, collections, exhibits and a research library.
