House Band is a night of live jazz and lounge vibes featuring the incredible, jazz explorers: Chad Taylor, Patrick Breiner and Eli Namay. Drinks by Bar Marco.
Chad Taylor is a drummer, percussionist, and composer with a fairly incomparable pedigree. He leads the Chad Taylor Trio with Brian Settles and Neil Podgurski and Circle Down with Angelica Sanchez and Chris Lightcap. He is also a founding member of Chicago Underground along with Jeff Parker and Rob Mazurek. If this were the end of his list of projects it would be more than enough to cement him as a powerhouse in modern jazz, but there is really no end to his list of collaborations which also include Marc Ribot, Janel Leppin, and James Brandon Lewis, to name a few. When he is not touring and recording, Taylor is the chair of the Jazz Studies program at the University of Pittsburgh.
Patrick Breiner is a saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer based in Pittsburgh, PA. Patrick is a founding member of the progressive sax quartet Battle Trance and a contributor to any number of mind-boggling ensembles currently shaping the Pittsburgh jazz and improvisation scene. This House Band performance sees Patrick return, as both performer and curator, to Baum Baum Club following a transformative night of music featuring his spontaneous composition project Two of Anything.
Eli Namay is a bassist, composer, and psychological ethnomusicologist whose music is as thoughtful and varied as his scholarship. Eli came up in the Chicago jazz and experimental music scene before relocating to Pittsburgh. Since his arrival, Namay has been a relentless force, showing up nearly everywhere music happens in this city. He has been a core performing member of Mai Khoi & The Dissidents, curator of the Open Improv Lab (OIL), and a contributor—both on record and on stage—to a variety of projects too numerous to list.
