The spirited exuberance of African American jazz and gospel music is the spark that ignites our concert season. We begin with Of Journeys and Refuge, commissioned by BCCS from Philadelphia pianist and composer, Jay Fluellen. This inspired work features choral settings of Psalm texts infused with jazz harmonies and brilliant, improvisational accompaniment. Robert Ray’s groundbreaking Gospel Mass completes the program with a riveting and joyful performance alongside the Intermezzo Choir Ministry. With soaring solos and infectious rhythms, singers and audience alike will be moved by this soulful celebration.
