Today, F. Scott Fitzgerald is remembered as the author of classic American novels, such as This Side of Paradise and The Great Gatsby.  During the “Roaring ‘20s”, however, Scott and his wife Zelda were equally famous for the scandalous lifestyle that they led.  The Ballyhoo Foxtrot Orchestra, under the direction of trombonist John Benoit and featuring vocalist Gina Gedler, will celebrate this remarkable couple in “I’m Gonna Jazz My Way”: The Story of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald in Narration and Song.  The show traces the full arc of the Fitzgeralds’ short but intense lives in a story that encompasses the entire gamut of human emotions – all except for shame.  The narrative is enlivened by the music of the Jazz Age, including many songs which are still familiar today such as “It Had to Be You,” “Yes Sir, That’s My Baby!,” and “Mood Indigo.” And it is all performed with the invigorating pep of a 1920s-era dance band.

 The Ballyhoo Foxtrot Orchestra was formed by John Benoit in 2005.  Since then, the band has entertained audiences with its authentic Jazz Age sound and repertoire in concerts and at jazz festivals throughout Iowa.  The nine-piece period ensemble features some of the best interpreters of early jazz in the state.
