Improv to Sketch

Description

In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how to transform spontaneous improv into polished, performance-ready sketches. Working in small groups, students will create improvised scenes, then break them down to uncover the characters, comedic game, and structure at their core. Together, you’ll rework these scenes into written sketches, refine them through rehearsal and feedback, and bring them to life on stage. The workshop culminates in a showcase performance on the ImprovCity stage—where students share their original sketches with family and friends.

Improv 101 or equivalent is required to enroll in the class. Prior experience may be requested.

Instructor:
Devin Dugan

About the instructor:
Devin Dugan is a veteran of the comedy world with more than 30 years of professional improv experience and nearly as many years in sketch comedy as a writer, performer, and director. He has written and staged four original sketch revues on The Second City Hollywood stage and has been a member of numerous sketch ensembles throughout his career.

In addition to his extensive stage work, Devin has directed and coached countless productions, guiding performers in discovering comedic structure, character, and the “game” of a scene. His teaching style emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and turning spontaneous ideas into polished comedic material.

 

Minimum 7 enrolled for class to proceed. Class maximum is 12 students.
