Description

Kathryn Ricketts (dance improvisor) and Ian Campbell (multi-media artist) are combining their forces once again to present a series of interdisciplinary performances in response to the work of visual artists Sylvia Matas and Anne Brochu Lambert.

Ian and Kathryn have many years behind them of combining image, sound and movement within themes of time, space, place and often within the various characters that Ricketts inhabits. In this case LUG a character of 19 years, in overcoat and felt hat, and lugging an old suitcase, will respond to this exhibition, Memories of the Sun.

Within this exhibition the artists transform thrifted snapshots and online security camera feeds into serene emotional landscapes prompting consideration that photography and streaming video have replaced remembering and experiencing. LUG moves through exactly these same liminal spaces of time, space and memory provoking images of belonging and longing and Campbell’s work is equally rich in enigmatic sound and imagery weaving through these complexities.

An added layer of the performance are postcards which have been distributed to the gallery visitor with the question; “How do you experience travelling through time and space?”

The answers will be read and interpreted as part of these performances. Come see your writing being transformed into live performance. Find out a little more about the madness behind these artists methods!
