Description
Description: In this workshop, participants will learn how to tie (and/or how to be tied in) face rope and head rope by experienced rope/shibari practitioners in an welcoming environment. Workshop will include demonstrations, step-by-step hands-on tying instruction, and opportunities for individual feedback. The class will address risks and safety issues, including issues of sensory deprivation / sensory alteration, as well as methods of communication (verbal, minimally verbal, and non-verbal communication) in face/head rope. Class will include both specific techniques and general methods of constructing rope head cages, and fitting the tie to the specific person. There will also be demonstrations and inspiration for how to incorporate face & head rope ties into rope scenes.
Skill/Experience Level: An intro rope class (such as Parker's Beginner Rope Intensive workshop or an equivalent workshop) is very helpful as background for this class. Tying participants should solidly know a square knot, half hitch, munter hitch/nodome, and Yuki fix. People being tied should have some experience being in rope, body awareness, and an ability to communicate in rope.
Partnering: Attend this workshop solo or with a partner. Participation in any parts of the workshop is entirely optional and should be done only with full, ongoing consent.
Some hands-on parts of the workshop are most effective with a partner. If you attend solo, you are welcome to try to partner up with another solo participant at the start of the workshop.
What to Bring: We recommend bringing at least 2 lengths of rope (usually ~25-35 ft. long each, and perhaps including one shorter length of rope that's ~10-15 ft.)
Rope (5mm POSH) is also available for purchase with workshop sign-up & at the workshop!
