10 East Oak StreetExplore the beauty of plants through the rich textures and expressive lines of intaglio printmaking. In this hands-on workshop, participants will create original botanical prints using clear Plexiglas plates as an alternative to traditional metal plates. Inspired by leaves, flowers, stems, and other natural forms, you'll learn how to scratch, engrave, and develop tonal effects on Plexiglas before inking and printing your design on an etching press.
This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as experienced artists looking to explore nontraditional intaglio techniques. Participants will gain an understanding of intaglio processes, plate preparation, inking, wiping, and printing while creating a unique edition of plant-inspired prints to take home.
Participants will:
Learn the fundamentals of intaglio printmaking using Plexiglas plates.
Explore botanical forms as inspiration for composition and mark-making.
Practice engraving, drypoint, and tonal techniques.
Ink and print multiple impressions using an etching press.
Leave with finished prints and the knowledge to continue exploring intaglio printmaking independently.
All materials are provided unless otherwise noted. No prior printmaking experience is required—just bring your curiosity and an appreciation for the natural world.
