Intro to CNC Routing

Description

Begin your journey into the world of CNC routing with our three-part workshop series designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in desktop CNC manufacturing. Join us as we delve into the core concepts, machine operation, and practical application, culminating in your ability to independently tackle CNC routing projects with confidence. Colby Gray, Ball State University professor and Director of Digital Fabrication, will guide participants though this hands-on learning experience to gain a comprehensive understanding of the CNC routing fundaments.

Session 1 (June 10): Introduction to CNC Basics-  Start by learning  fundamental vocabulary, terms, and concepts surrounding CNC manufacturing, milling, and cutting. By the end of this session, you'll have a solid grasp of key terminology and understand how to apply them in the Carbide Create software environment. 

Session 2 (June 17): Mastering the Carbide Machine-  Building on the fundamentals with hands-on learning, participants will gain proficiency in design software, and learn  to prepare the machine for operation, including proper material fixation and bed configuration. 

Session 3 (to be scheduled with instructor): Independent Project Execution- In our final session, it's time to put your knowledge into action. Armed with a comprehensive understanding of software operations and machine functionality, you'll tackle a project independently, with guidance and feedback from our experienced instructors. This session is designed to empower you to approach CNC routing projects confidently, utilizing your newfound skills to bring your creative visions to life.

Recommended for ages 18+ All supplies will be provided. No prior skills or experience is necessary. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop. A link will be provided upon registration to download the free software so that participants can practice their skills between classroom sessions.
