The Parlor Room is now offering introductory classes in music theory! In these classes we will cover the fundamentals of music theory, including standard music notation, basic chord progressions, and beginner melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic analysis. Dive into the music and understand why your favorite music is your favorite music! This class is geared towards beginners - some prior knowledge welcome, but no prior knowledge required!
About the instructor: Alex Strenta began learning music theory in his early teens at Dartmouth College’s Jazzology summer program. As a high school junior, he took his first academic course in music theory at Dartmouth College, before attending Dickinson College, where he received his undergraduate degree in Music Composition in 2014. While at Dickinson, he was a Teaching Assistant for two years for all levels of music theory, was part of a master class from Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline Shaw, and over the summers, performed on stage with Richie Cannata (former saxophonist for Billy Joel) at the famed Bitter End in NYC. He has taught private lessons on trumpet (though he no longer plays) and takes individual pupils for individual study.
