ABOUT THE CLASS: Set your improv skills to music in our new Introduction to Musical Improv class! This six week course will teach students how to improvise lyrics along with musical accompaniment. Through various exercises and fun, musical games, students will learn about song structure, rhyming, and working with an accompanist. Includes a class show to show off your new musical improv talents!
ABOUT CLAIRE HOLM: Claire Holm is a Speech-Language Pathologist, Musical Improviser and Spirit Junkie. It all started in college when friends lured her from the safety of her musical theater bubble into the adrenaline rush of musical improv. 14 years and hundreds of musicals later, Claire now performs regularly with ‘Thank You Places’, a Philly based team that creates an entire musical on the spot. Claire has been fortunate to study at The Magnet, IO, and Annoyance and loves to share the art & science of spontaneous song making. She is the proud mother of 3 cats and a gazillion plants.
ABOUT SCOTT HUGHES: Scott is an improviser, educator, and jazz pianist who has been making stuff up since he was tall enough to reach the keys. Now he's much bigger, and he's had the chance to study, teach, and perform with some of the best musicians and actors all over, from University of the Arts, Temple University, ComedySportz, Philly Improv Theater, The Magnet, and iO. When he's not on stage with Thank You, Places: An Improvised Musical, you'll find him improvising with comparable audacity in the kitchen, in business meetings, and with his own life.
ABOUT THE LOCATION: This is unfortunately not an accessible space. Philly Dance Fitness is located at 1923 Chestnut Street above the Trek bike shop in Center City. Head up the stairs, then through the doorway at the back of the second floor landing. We highly recomomend biking, walking, or taking public transportation as this location is in the heart of Center City. This location is surrounded by several bus and trolly routes. Paid street parking is available throughout the area but can be difficult to find. There are various paid parking lots in the area as well.
COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: All our instructors are fully vaccinated. All students must be fully vaccinated – including booster shots! Students will be required to email a photo of their vax upon enrollment. Masks will be optional though this guidance can change. Students should stay home if they are ill the day of class. Any student that tests positive for COVID-19 agrees to inform the theater and to stay home until they provide proof of a negative test.
REFUND / EXCHANGE / TRANSFER POLICY
A full refund is available up to one week prior to the start of the first class. No refunds will be issued after this time. If you are unable to attend a class that you have enrolled in you may request a credit to be used for a future class. This request must be made at least 48 hours before the first class is set to begin. If you are unable to attend a class that you have enrolled in you may request to transfer to another class. This request must be made at least 48 hours before the first class is set to begin. Requests may be denied based on space available in other classes.
