Intro to Poetry Collage

Join us for these rotating focuses every Second Saturday! With rotating focuses, you'll want to come back for more: 

 

March 9: Focus on the poem. In this workshop, we will use found language to craft poems for collage. There will be materials and opportunity to collage your poem, but the primary focus of the class is finding poetry in the everyday. When collaging, extra attention will be placed on the words themselves and how the images can bolster them.

 

April 13: Focus on layers & shapes. In this workshop, we will  explore how to combine images in surprising ways that take your collages to the next level. This is a good class for people who are interested in collage and have some experience, but find themselves relying on expected shapes such as squares and rectangles and want to expand from there.

 

May 11: Beginner Poetry Collage! Come with a poem, leave with a work of art! In this class, we will work to turn our poetry into a multi-media experience with use of classic collage methods. Don't have a poem? Don't worry. We will have poetry to choose from when you arrive.

 

This is a low-pressure environment designed to be fun and allow those of us in the writing world to dip our toes into visual media. 

 

All supplies are provided. All ages are welcome.

 

Hailey Spencer is, in the words of her wife Elizabeth, an absolute cloud of a girl. She is obsessed with fairy tales and has an equally passionate rivalry with ants. She is the author of the poetry collections Stories for When the Wolves Arrive and Out of Love in Spring, and loves to bring her poetry to visual life via collage.
