The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership's Community Kitchen is a cookery school where everyone can cook, learn new skills and enjoy food with others. We want everyone to experience the benefits of cooking and eating together. By paying for a cookery class, you help other people to attend cookery activities, regardless of finance, confidence or ability, and to make lasting changes to their lives.
Description
Learn to create fermented recipes including water kefir and sauerkraut.
Fermented foods and drinks are big news now, and for good reason. Enjoyed for centuries by people from many cultures, not only do fermented foods & drinks pack a punch taste-wise but those who eat them report many health benefits. Fermenting is also a great way of preserving gluts of home-grown produce.
Roisin, founder of local fermented drink producer Wildling, has joined our team to share her knowledge with a hands-on fermenting workshop. In this 3-hour session she will teach you how to make water kefir and sauerkraut. Roisin will discuss the benefits of fermented foods & drinks, alongside lots of flavour inspiration and tasters, and ideas for how to use your fermented creations in smoothies, coleslaw and more. Tasters will include milk kefir and kombucha.
You will leave with a bottle of water kefir and a jar of sauerkraut, in your choice of flavours, alongside all the know-how you need to start making your own fermented creations at home.
What previous participants on our fermentation workshops said: “It was so simple, well explained, easy to do and follow. Good to work with and share ideas with others.” “Very friendly, good value. Totally enjoyable.” “I will definitely be making ferments, I had no idea how easy it was!”
