A Guided Cheese Tasting at Sparrow Wine Bar

Cheese is one of the oldest, most incredible foods on earth — born of accident, perfected by tradition, and shaped by place. In this immersive, mouthwatering class, we’ll explore how cheese was first discovered, how it’s made, and how milk transforms into everything from delicate bloomy rinds to bold, crystalline wheels.

Together, we’ll taste our way through a curated selection of domestic and international cheeses, exploring distinct regions, styles, and milk types. You’ll learn how to identify major cheese categories, understand texture and aging, and recognize the flavor markers that tell the story of where a cheese comes from.

Along the way, we’ll cover:

  • The fascinating origins of cheesemaking
  • The essential steps in the cheesemaking process
  • The major cheese families (and how to recognize them)
  • Pairing principles for wine, beer, and beyond
  • Practical tips for building a cheese board
  • Simple, inspired ways to cook and serve cheese at home

Each guest will receive a thoughtfully prepared tasting box featuring a variety of cheeses to sample throughout class. This is a guided, sensory experience — you’ll taste intentionally, compare styles, and begin building your own cheese vocabulary. Wine is available for purchase – we are meeting in a wine bar, after all! 

We encourage you to bring:

  • A small notebook for recording tasting notes
  • A bottle of water to refresh your palate

You’re also welcome to purchase a cheese log book at Euphoric Cheese Shop prior to class — a beautiful and practical companion for all your future cheese adventures.

Whether you’re brand new to artisan cheese or looking to deepen your appreciation, this class will leave you tasting more confidently, pairing more intuitively, and savoring cheese with a whole new perspective.

Class schedule:

  • 5:45pm - Doors open
  • 5:45-6:15pm - Bar open for ordering wine
  • 6:15-8:15pm - Class is in session!
  • 8:15-9:00pm - Sip and shop at Euphoric Cheese Shop - Euphoric Cheese Shop will be open after the class ends so you'll have the opportunity to purchase cheese and accoutrements to take home.

We’ve designed Sparrow with your comfort and relaxation in mind, including leather sofas, velvet chairs, cushioned bar seats, soft lighting, warm colors and an unpretentious approach to wine and cheese.

Sparrow is a place where you can meet with friends and loved ones, or bring a book or journal and find the space for leisure. We keep the music volume low enough so you can engage in conversation or let your mind wander.

On the wine list you’ll find 60+ wines from around the world, plus beer, cider and non-alcoholic beverages.

Our food menu features small bites, cheese flights, charcuterie boards and a selection of decadent desserts, including our already popular Dessert Board.

On those perfect-weather days, our patio is an excellent space to share a bottle of wine — and dogs are welcome on the patio too.

There’s no need to make reservations — our seating is first-come, first-served.
