Javier Olondo & AsheSon
Trained as a classical guitarist, Cuban artist, Javier Olondo, formed his award-winning Latin band, Javier Olondo & AsheSon in 2006, shortly after hurricane Katrina devastated his hometown of New Orleans. The need for a Cuban music band brought together several musicians from different musical backgrounds. The members’ different musical experiences, including classical, traditional Latin, Jazz and Cuban music, morphed smoothly to make Javier Olondo & AsheSon a unique sounding group. Today the group continues to play Cuban traditional music and has added other popular rhythms such as salsa, merengue and bachata to their repertoire.
The group has performed in many festivals throughout Louisiana such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival annually; Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette; Que Pasa Fest in New Orleans, Azucar Ball and internationally, at the Mostra de Guitarra de Caldes d'Estrach in Barcelona, Spain. Javier Olondo & AsheSon also plays corporate parties, private parties and have a monthly performance at the iconic Rock n Bowl in New Orleans.
AsheSon is an original name. Ashe is an Afro-Cuban word for good karma and Son is a Cuban traditional musical genre. Combined, AsheSon means positive Cuban karma and surely that is what they musically spread at their performances.
