Mary Cross 12:00pm - 1:30pm

MARY CROSS THE MOTHER OF COOL SMOKE SINGER. SONGWRITER. STYLISTA. WIFE. MOTHER. HUMANITARIAN

Mary Cross…dubbed the Mother of Cool Smoke for her rich vocal tonalities that are reminiscent of the late Phyllis Linda Hyman.

Described in a Frontrunner article as “the kind of singer who takes hold of a song and enraptures her audience in the palm of her hands, as she delivers lyrics, phrases, melodies and harmonies in a way that only she can”.

Blessed with an instantly identifiable honey-toned mezzo-contralto sound with great range and an undeniably brilliant and magnetic stage presence, Mary’s alluring vocals, candor, honesty, humor and purity as an artist make her a rarity in this business.

Having performed before SOLD OUT audiences throughout the country, sharing the stage with the great Gerald Veasley, collaborations with Philadelphia’s own Grammy Nominated producer Donald Robinson on original compilations – her recent release featured Saxophonist Carl Cox (who travels with Maysa).  Mary is humbled to be in the presence of such renowned artists.

Mary Cross has graced many stages:  Berks Jazz Fest, Willingboro Jazz Fests,  South Jazz Kitchen, Kelsey’s Premiere Supper Club and many more…

It is no wonder she was the recipient of many awards including the 2021 Creative Media Black History award for her work with non profits including universities, healthcare, mental health, youth and senior centers facilities.

She was also a 2021 Soultracks nominee for Female Vocalist of the Year for her 3rd release titled “PROMISE” …a 2021 Soultracks Top 100 Soul single.

As an independent artist, Mary has released 3 singles, IN LOVE THERE’S A RISK, YOU CAN CHANGE IT,  and PROMISE, the latter two co-written with Donald Robinson.

Mary is working on her first album scheduled for release in Fall 2022.

Marcus Johnson 1:45pm - 3:30pm

Marcus Johnson is an independent Billboard-ranked, internationally acclaimed Jazz Keyboardist.  His latest release is the CD titled “BALLADS...In My Voice”, showcasing his soulful interpretations of some of his favorite ballads from different parts of his life and favorite artists who wrote and recorded them.

Al Green’s hit “Let’s Stay Together” is the lead single and announces a musical journey of R&B Jazz from Marcus Johnson’s voice on keys, all while maintaining the MJ ‘Factor Groove’ that established him as one of the giant keyboardists of jazz funk urban music made famous by legendary jazz greats, George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Sample, Bob James, Chick Corea, and others.

Marcus is a believer in every person defining his/her dreams and charting an individual path to success. While pursuing his JD and MBA at Georgetown, Marcus independently produced and distributed his first CD, Lessons in Love, which sold more than 40,000 units, a phenomenal success for an unknown independent artist’s debut. Marcus partnered with Black Entertainment Television (“BET”) founder Robert L. Johnson, to establish Marimelj Entertainment Group and Three Keys Music. Marcus has released more than 16 Billboard charted CDs, and produced and released works by national jazz artists including Michael Lington, Jaared Arosemena, Bobby Lyle, Nick Colionne, Alyson Williams, and smooth jazz saxophonists Phillip “Doc” Martin and Brian Lenair.

Biography

Karol Harmon first started being exposed to Jazz music at an early age, with her Dad playing his albums day and night.   His favorite artists and their songs became some of her favorite to this day:  Nat King Cole, Wes Montgomery, Jose Feliciano, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughan,  Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, and Johnny Mathis, just to name a few!

Nothing else would satisfy Ms. Harmon or would send her on a musical journey of comfort and love as when she put on the albums and reminisce of a time when “All in Love is Fair.” The times were challenging but the music was pure ... she knows that she can’t turn back time but she can try to recreate those memories through presenting the vintage sounds and bringing forth new sounds with Jazz musicians who share her appreciation of this American Classical Music.

“From my heart to your ears!!!” is her motto.
