Description

Jeff Andrew is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and fiddler with an eye for the unusual. His songs are like a cracked-mirror reflection of the world we know – a parallel reality told through werewolf love stories, underground travel tales, weird historical fiction, and post-apocalyptic visions of a world we may yet inhabit.

Onstage, and on his new album Blood Moon (to be released June 2023), he explores this dream-like landscape through an electrified patchwork of folk, rock and post-punk, with echoes of old-time Americana and 80s horror movie soundtracks. Recorded in Cumberland, BC with acclaimed engineer Corwin Fox, Blood Moon mixes keyboard synths, orchestral instruments and tight vocal arrangements with Jeff’s story-driven songwriting. The result is a new, harder-edged sound, inspired by genre-crossing artists like Neko Case, Tom Waits and Nick Cave.

Since 2009, Jeff has released 3 albums of original songs, to airplay and critical acclaim across North America and western Europe. He has been a featured performer at over a dozen festivals and has toured Canada multiple times, playing hundreds of shows between Vancouver Island, Newfoundland and the Yukon. His live shows range from un-amplified acoustic performances to loud, effects-driven electric guitar and foot-stomping fiddle tunes, all spun together with his folksinger’s baritone voice.

Ghostly Hounds is the folk project of Francesca Mirai, singer-songwriter and banjo player based out of S,DÁYES/ Pender Island, BC. With a background in classical, jazz and punk, Francesca has become known for their unique vocals. They captivate their audience with a clear, soaring range, powerful projection and just the right amount of grit, coalescing elegantly with traditional and modern banjo instrumentals. Formed in Tiohtià:ke/ Montréal in 2015, and often on the road, they have delivered hundreds of performances from coast-to-coast, backed by a rotating cast of skilled musicians.
Ghostly Hounds released their debut album, Creature, in 2017 and their sophomore album, In The Rubble, in September 2022. Though the band has included a variety of eclectic instrumentation over the years, from trumpet to musical saw, Ghostly Hounds now features support from Finn Letourneau (fiddle, vocal harmonies) and Val Lalune (upright bass, vocal harmonies).
The traditional combination of banjo and fiddle met with classically trained, powerhouse vocals evoke a fusion of modern and vintage sounds. Kick drum imbues the performance with drive and rhythm, moving their audience between states of mesmerized captivation and joyful dancing. Francesca’s deeply personal song writing, with focus on themes of love and grief, has evoked adoration from listeners across Canada and the United States. Their skill as a songwriter, the intimacy and vulnerability of their songs, and their original and soulful arrangements have earned Ghostly Hounds enduring and enthusiastic support from their fans.
This summer you can find them all over so-called British Columbia, touring and performing at Festivals including Edge Of The World (Haida Gwaii), Rogue Music Festival (Gibsons) and Peace Valley Folk Festival (Hudson’s Hope).
