This band is a gathering of longtime seekers—players who know that music is not just sound, but soil, sweat, breath, and memory. Jeff Coffin (saxophone) brings the wide-open wind—restless, melodic, curious—shaped by years with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones and Dave Matthews Band. Across from him stands saxophone titan Tony Dagradi, a New Orleans luminary whose tone carries the humid weight of the Gulf and the ghosts of Storyville. The synergy between these two is immediate and palpable.
Between Jeff & Tony: the riverbanks…
Holding the deepest pulse are James Singleton (bass) and Johnny Vidacovich (drums)—the most telepathic rhythmic pairing New Orleans has ever grown. Their playing is more conversation than groove, more weather than meter. It moves like tide. It speaks of the ages and of familiarity. It’s friendship and family in sound.
Adding a voice that is both ancient and new is Helen Gillet (cello, vocals, looping): a sonic alchemist channeling chamber music, chanson, and improvisation into something earthy, bodily, and glowing with intuition. Helen brings the deep earth and a healing musical presence to everyone within her wide reach.
Together, these musicians, these artists, play music that feels discovered rather than written—like it drifted in on a warm, late-night breeze through a cracked window. It is improvised, rooted, playful, and deep. Good dirt music. Music that breathes. Music that remembers. Music that sticks on your body like a humid New Orleans night.
