2024 Good Live Theatre - Paradise Theatre Artists In Residence Series

Jerk Off! is an autobiographical solo show written and performed by Nadia Manzoor and directed by Tara Elliott. It explores the intersections of identity and grief in the murky waters of an abusive relationship. With her signature style of comedic narrative, chameleonic shifts in character, and dynamic movement, Nadia brings to life a world of underground hip-hop where she explores how we self-perpetuate abuse, how ungrieved loss can sink us, and what family really means.

About The Artists

Nadia P Manzoor (Writer/Performer) is a Pakistani Brit living in Brooklyn. Her critically acclaimed solo show, Burq Off!, toured internationally for 3 years to sold-out audiences, for which she was featured in the award-winning documentary The Pakistani Four. Her comedy web series, Shugs and Fats, won a Gotham Film Award for Best Short Series. Shugs and Fats premiered at the Tribeca and Tacoma Film Festivals and was developed into a pilot with Amazon Studios. Her short film Cut Leaf was a finalist at the Tribeca/Chanel Through her Lens program and is in development as a feature. Filmmaker Magazine recognized her as one of the twenty-five new faces of Independent Film in 2016.

Her work has led her to be interviewed by Christiane Amanpour, Terry Gross, Deepak Chopra, and Marc Lamont Hill, to name a few. She has been featured in the NYTimes, Indian VOGUE, and the BBC, where she has widely discussed her experience navigating growing up Muslim in the UK and the impact of being a ‘third culture kid.’ Her TEDx talk, The Story of Identity, is a tip of the hat to where the soul of her work lives. Her personal essay, Astronauts, was published as part of Double Bind, an anthology on female ambition. She is currently developing her next solo show, Jerk Off!, and is writing her first comedy stand-up special about the madness of motherhood.  www.nadiapmanzoor.com
