Description
In pre–Civil War New Orleans, strong-willed Southern belle Julie Marsden (Bette Davis) defies convention and scandalizes society when she attends a ball wearing a red gown instead of the traditional white. Her impulsive rebellion alienates her fiancé, banker Preston Dillard (Henry Fonda), whose sense of honor clashes with Julie’s fiery pride.
As yellow fever sweeps the city and social order collapses, Julie’s defiance turns to remorse in a desperate bid for redemption. Directed by William Wyler and featuring an Academy Award-winning performance by Bette Davis, Jezebel remains one of the most striking portrayals of passion, pride, and punishment in classic Hollywood cinema.
