Description

Joshua Burnside is an experimental folk songwriter, singer and

producer. He takes influence from alternative electronica and Irish

folk, chopping and blending them with a mixture of found sounds,

world music and unorthodox production methods.

His third album, Teeth Of Time, sits comfortably and

confrontationally between the alt-folk realms, while retaining the

indie and traditional folk elements of Josh's signature songwriting.

A record that is at times jagged and dark, and soothing and bright

at others, Teeth Of Time takes places in the deepest recess’s of

Joshua’s imagination and memories, and pull constant influence

from political secterianisim, enviornemtal destruction and his

experiences as a first time father.

Following an award-winning debut album and an acclaimed

follow-up released during the height of the global pandemic, his

music lives against the grain, in both style and spirit. Raised in

the north of Ireland between the lush drumlins and hills of

Strangford Lough, and the narrow entries and alleyways of East

Belfast, Joshua’s music has defined and defied the post-conflict

society of his home.

Taking in the economics of existence, family, trauma and renewal,

while set against a backdrop of tense electronica and lush Irish

folk and traditional songwriting, Joshua has entrenched himself

within the fabric of the modern folk canon, alongside the likes of

Bon Iver, Lankum and Richard Dawson.

Like all good stories, this is a story rooted in love.

The seeds of this story were planted way back in the 1970's, when I, Lalita, moved to Kaleden and met the Hayter family. As a youth I would love, laugh, dance, sing, and play on these lands with the Hayter cousins Kris and Myron, eating Grandma Hayters cinnamon toast after school. This family would take over my heart.

Life would happen and we would lose the Hayter cousins at a young age. Grief would move my feet to travel, but eventually these feet would bring me back home to raise my own family.

To return a lifetime later to these lands and these beautiful people completes a circle in my life, full bloom.

It is my honor to be given the opportunity to operate Frog City Cafe with my husband and hold space for love, laughter, dancing, singing, and playing.

This is a love story. This is Frog City Cafe.
