Join the Cape Fear Bonsai Society for an afternoon of bonsai, fellowship, and hands-on learning.
Whether you're a longtime member, just getting started, or simply curious about bonsai, we'd love to have you spend the afternoon with us.
We'll begin with a catered lunch from Moe's Original BBQ, followed by plenty of time to visit with fellow members, share bonsai, and enjoy informal discussions. The event will be held indoors in the comfort of UNCW OLLI's air-conditioned facility, making it a perfect way to enjoy a summer Sunday.
Members are encouraged to bring a favorite bonsai, a recent project, or a tree they'd like advice on. Every tree has a story, and this is a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from one another in a relaxed setting.
Beginning around 1:30–2:00 PM, workshop participants will receive a Chinese elm from Wigert's Bonsai Nursery and learn the fundamentals of bonsai through hands-on trimming, basic styling, and proper aftercare. Basic concepts such as wiring and repotting will also be introduced to provide a solid foundation for future learning.
No prior experience is necessary—we'll guide you every step of the way.
If you've attended one of our meetings, exhibitions, or workshops—or have simply been thinking about joining the Cape Fear Bonsai Society—this is a wonderful opportunity to meet our members, ask questions, and experience what our club is all about.
The club will provide a catered barbecue lunch from Moe's Original BBQ.
Members who would like to contribute are welcome to bring a salad, vegetable dish, fruit, dessert, or beverage to complement the meal. Contributions are entirely optional but always appreciated.

The Cape Fear Bonsai Society, established in 2001, is a group that meets monthly to study and practice the art of Bonsai.
The club has an active program of training through workshops, guest speakers, and a sharing of Bonsai expertise. Membership is open to both the novice and the more experienced practitioner of Bonsai.
