Description

Event Title
Penjing: The Art of Living Landscapes

Date: Sunday, June 28, 2026
Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Location: OLLI at UNCW

Penjing is the Chinese art of creating miniature landscapes using trees, rocks, and terrain to evoke the feeling of nature in a tray. While closely related to bonsai, penjing often emphasizes a broader scene—mountains, forests, and landscapes captured in a single composition.

Join the Cape Fear Bonsai Society for a special presentation by Aarin Packard, who will introduce the principles of penjing design and explore how landscape elements can be used to create depth, movement, and narrative within a planting.

Through images and discussion, Aarin will share examples of Chinese penjing and explain how these ideas can influence bonsai design and display. This presentation is suitable for beginners and experienced bonsai practitioners alike.

Guests are welcome, and bonsai enthusiasts from across the region are encouraged to attend — including our friends from the Triangle.
