“Anne was able to quickly create a psychologically safe space in which she also gave direct, in-the-moment feedback that I could implement in real time. Not a single moment of the two-hour class was wasted and I felt very comfortable taking risks.”

—Mason Atkin: Government Auditor, Jello Wrestler

Are you clown curious? Clown dubious? Maybe you want a taster before committing to a longer course or you're a former (or current!) student wanting to keep your skills sharp! Whoever you are, you are welcome. Clown Clinic is an affordable drop-in to help you hone precision movement, develop audience connection, and play with curiosity and foolishness.

We will be moving our bodies and maybe even working up a sweat, so wear what feels good to move in and bring water. There are no street shoes allowed in the studio, and we will be working barefoot. If your access needs or preferences prevent this, please wear grippy socks or clean shoes you can move in.

... is Anne Zander.

Anne Zander (she/her/hers) is a “completely ridiculous… completely vulnerable” actor, clown, solo-character creator and physical comedy teacher with an MA in devised, physical theater (Theatre Lab) from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She studied clowning there and beyond with her Gaulier-trained teacher, Peta Lily. Her “painfully funny” debut solo show — JUICEBOX — took Portland by storm in 2019 and was Official Selection 2020 at Chicago Sketchfest, Dallas Comedy Festival and HBO’s Women in Comedy Festival (Boston). Pandemic credits include multiple guest spots on Ron Lynch’s IG Live, comedy-variety Tomorrow! Show (LA), and her absurd, digital solo show, Prolific, which debuted at Fertile Ground 2021. She performs regularly at comedy venues across Portland and is also the mother to 1-year old twins, who made multiple stage appearances in utero but have yet to bring their own clown antics to the greater public.
