MARCH 19 - MARGHERITA FAVA'S TATATU/BERNELL JONES PROJECT

 

Set One: Margherita Fava's TATATU

Italian pianist Margherita Fava and her quartet will present music from her debut album “TATATU.” The title is a reference to one of Fava’s first sentences as a child and roughly translates as “I can do it by myself.” The project is self-produced from top to bottom and features a variety of original compositions and arrangements that reflect her unique perspective on the music.

 

Set Two: Bernell Jones Project

Saxophonist/keyboardist Bernell Jones II is a native of Memphis, TN. He graduated from the Jazz Studies program at UTK in 2020, and moved to New York City where he has quickly made a name for himself. Jones has performed with artists as diverse as singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill, rapper Wyclef Jean and trumpeter Philip Harper.

Bernell will present a set of his own music which represents a balance between the Big Apple’s fabled jazz presence and the sound of Memphis’ beloved soul music.

April 16 - Love Letter To Knoxville: Sam Adams Quintet/Jazz Meets The Funk: Kenneth Brown Quintet

 

Set One: Love Letter To Knoxville: Sam Adams Quintet

Since returning to his hometown of Knoxville in 2015, pianist/composer Sam Adams has been changed and shaped by the wonderful local music scene that this city offers. This special concert features his original music dedicated to and inspired by the people and experiences that Adams has encountered as a musician working in his hometown. Adams’ set will feature a stellar local band including Terry Washington (trumpet), Michael Price (saxophone), Tyler Cain (bass), and Nolan Nevels (drums).

 

Set Two: Jazz Meets The Funk - Kenneth Brown Quintet

Drummer/ composer Kenneth Brown plays music inspired by his diverse musical background. These compositions are most influenced by 80s/90s funk, r&b, and some rock.

 

May 7 - TABER GABLE & THE MARBLE CITY BROTHERS/JACK ROBEN PLAYS AMERICANA

 

Set One: Jack Roben Plays Americana

Americana is often used as a term to loosely describe the many musical traditions of our country including blues, country, Appalachian, and gospel among many others. Each of these traditions contain a wealth of musical treasures, so join us for a night of interpretations of the music and sounds of figures like Roger Miller, Townes Van Zandt, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Elizabeth Cotten, and others.

 

Set Two: Taber Gable and the Marble City Brothers

Pianist Taber Gable is a Knoxville native who finds joy and creative fulfillment in many different styles of musical expression. A graduate of Julliard and frequent collaborator with A-list jazz musicians on the international scene, Taber brings deep roots to every type of music that he performs. For this special event, Taber and company will explore the intersection between Pop, Country, Soul, Southern Roots and Jazz. The set will include original compositions as well as covers of groups such as the Derrick Trucks Band, Tyler Childers, Christopher Cross, Sons of Champlin and Elton John.
