Description

Join us on Sunday, February 8th, for a FREE cultural presentation that celebrates and preserves Afro-descendant cultures across the African diaspora. The event will welcome guest representatives from Honduras, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Peru, who will share cultural histories and lead libation ceremonies honoring the land and the ancestors.

La Casa de la Cultura is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of diverse communities. Through inclusive programs, workshops, and artistic initiatives, it fosters creativity, cultural exchange, and collective identity. A beacon for Latin American cultural traditions, La Casa de la Cultura continues to strengthen community bonds and inspire generations through its commitment to art and heritage. The group will be performing at the Harvey B. Gantt Center on Saturday, and we are excited to have them continue their Afro Legacy Fest at Rosedale on Sunday in our outdoor pavilion.

The Mission of Historic Rosedale Foundation is threefold: to educate, to preserve and to continue to build a more diverse and inclusive platform for interpretation. We shall: 1) Present an authentic view of five generations of the Frew, Caldwell and Davidson families, and the enslaved and free African Americans that lived and worked on the land; 2) Preserve and interpret the 1815 historic house and the surrounding buildings emphasizing the important role these white and black families held in Charlotte, NC; 3) Provide and maintain a peaceful green space with Treasure Trees, garden borders, native and heirloom plants within a highly developed urban corridor.
