Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960) is a landmark of European art cinema that captures the empty glamour and spiritual malaise of Rome's elite society in the late 1950s. The film follows Marcello, a gossip journalist played by Marcello Mastroianni, as he drifts through seven days and nights of decadent parties, fleeting romances, and encounters with celebrities, intellectuals, and aristocrats.
