Description

Hello all in America,

My name is Eoghan Connaughton; I visited the USA in October last year and spoke in New York and Philadelphia about my idea and why it relates to the International Irish Community. I would have loved a full tour of the States and spoken to everyone face-to-face, but you've got a huge country and I'm only a volunteer. So in short:

It's been my heartfelt desire to cultivate meaningful cooperation for the co-creation of a Commemorative Woodland to mark the 200th anniversary of the Great Hunger in 2045. I have been doing this work voluntarily for seven years and have built great momentum in Ireland, but as this forest will be dedicated to the Irish Diaspora, I'd very much like our International Community to feel connected to the creation.

We are in the process of purchasing an ecologically and historically significant site in Cavan now, to which you will be invitied to visit in the future. In the meantime, we have partnered with the Celtic Arts Junction in Minnesota for the free online Premiere of the "Land of the Gael" for Valentines Day, February 14th at 2pm Eastern.

We welcome you and your members to join us for this invigorating panel discussion and exposé on how Irish ecology and landscape influenced the evolution of Gaelic culture and language. Our team of scholars have delved deep into the Irish Annals to bring to light evidence and anecdotes of cultural affinity to landscape in Gaelic Ireland.

We hosted this talk in Powerscourt, Wicklow, Ireland, in November 2025, and it was a huge success. We were asked by the audience to create a digital production to share the content- so we did. We invested in a professional media crew and have decided to premiere this production for, and with, the Irish community in America. A meaningful way to connect at-scale.

This will be a 90 min production with opportunities for Q&A during and after.

We will explore aspects of Gaelic Ireland that will illuminate a beautiful eco-cultural niche in Irish Identity: a bespoke analysis of old Irish culture and language in the context of ecology. It's food for imagination and conversation. Invite friends and family. We really hope you can make it!

Please see registeration for the free online Valentines Day event below; and beneath a full description of the event (with graphics attached) should you wish to share the invitation through your communication and social networks.

We invite you to get cosy with us on Valentines Day, and learn more about the Land we Love.

Le meas,

Eoghan Connaughton

Description of Event:

In preparation for the coming Spring, join the Gaelic Woodland Project for the Premiere of their ‘Land of the Gael’ — an exposé of historical evidence and anecdotes that illuminate the relationship to Nature in Gaelic Ireland.

Their panel of scholars, ecologists and solicitors have delved deep into the Irish Annals to find hidden gems that cultivate a conversation about “Irish-ness”.

The ‘Land of the Gael’ production was developed following exceptional reviews of the concept launch at a panel discussion in Powerscourt, Wicklow, in November 2025.

“Riveting. I was bolted to my chair.”

“A well-structured talk with intoxicating complexity.”

“Fuel for further conversations.”

The Gaelic Woodland Project is delighted to partner with the Celtic Arts Junction to share their research with an international audience.

Join Eoghan Connaughton, Santiago Rial and Oisin O'Neill as they weave a narrative that is guaranteed to leave viewers with a more nuanced understanding of “what it meant to be Irish”, and how old ways of being can enrich our relationship with the world today.

Title: About the Gaelic Woodland Project.

The Gaelic Woodland Project is a skill-sharing charity based in Ireland that is cultivating an eco-cultural niche.

Not only through direct actions addressing the pressures on Ireland’s ecological inheritance, but also by cultivating these conversations that invigorate relationships to place.

The charity is committed to the creation of a flagship forest that will be used to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Great Hunger in 2045.

Here a standing stone will be placed in a central grove dedicated to the International Irish Community and a beacon to welcome home generations to come.
