Langdon Kennedy
Langdon Kennedy is a singer-songwriter on the fringe of popularity and on the cusp of a complete Corporate America exodus. He was born Eric Langdon Kennedy in Joliet, IL, in the shadows of Stateville Prison. He lived in an island town called Wilmington, growing up blocks away from the historic Route 66. Surrounded by water and farmland, Langdon and his four siblings relied on homegrown entertainment, peppered with musical influences like Johnny Cash, comedians like Richard Pryor and cross-culture, hybrid entertainers like Steve Martin and Spike Jones.
Langdon’s storytelling and original music have been compared to John Prine, Neil Young, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Tyler Childers and Chris Stapleton. Since 2008, he has entertained at local music venues, Irish pubs, community events, private parties and watering holes from Nashville, TN to San Francisco, CA. Along the way, he’s performed hundreds of shows in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Colorado, Tennessee, California and Newcastle, England.
Langdon’s musical style teeters on Americana, a cousin to Country, a stepsister to Folk and an occasional distant relative to Bluegrass. His 2019 breakout album, One Swig, features the Prine-esque “Searching Alone,” as well as the self-proclaimed hack anthem “Can’t Play Guitar.” His 2021 album, Skinny Arms, stretches into protest songs (“Standing on a Ladder”), self-awareness tunes (“I’m Not High”) and spirited anthems (“Crisps, Nuts & Guinness”). Smiley’s Hotel (2023) captures Langdon’s relocation from Chicago to San Francisco and is highlighted by the title track, as well as “Specialize in Greed,” “Driving Home with David Bowie” and “Brick,” a tribute to one of Langdon’s former college baseball teammates who played for the Detroit Tigers. Langdon Calling (2024) is his first live album and features the catchy “Swashbuckling Pirate,” the time-constrained “210 Seconds” and the what-if “Every Other Day.”
All of Langdon’s albums have been produced in Nashville, TN, by his son, Declan, also a musician. All three of his children and his wife, Shayne, have performed on stage with Langdon.
If you catch Langdon live on stage, you’ll be treated to an evening of stories, tall tales, catchy hooks, basic harmonica riffs and a Wisconsin-made Porch Board. He’ll take you back to a time when people gathered in living rooms and screenless entertainment abounded.
