EVENT DESCRIPTION

Our Latte Art 101 is a hands-on 2-hour workshop at Augusta Lab, led by Venice Vallega, former Canadian Latte Art Champion and one of the few people in this country to have competed among the world's very best on the international stage. She has trained for years at the highest level, and now she's bringing all of it into a small, focused class designed for complete beginners.

The lab is outfitted with two commercial espresso machines, which means one steam wand for every two attendees. You will get serious machine time. You'll pull real espresso shots, steam real milk, and pour your first latte art heart in a real specialty coffee environment, with Venice right there to guide you through it.

The class is capped at 8 people. That's intentional. It means you're not watching from the back of a crowd. You're in it.

By the end of the two hours, you'll have poured more cups than you can count, learned things about coffee you didn't know you didn't know, and walked away with a genuine new skill and a bag of specialty coffee to take home (because you'll want to keep practicing!).

What to expect:

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Intro to latte art and how it works
  • A hands-on flow exercise before you touch any milk
  • Live demo from Venice covering espresso, steaming, and the pour
  • Open practice time on the machines with Venice circulating and coaching
  • Snacks and refreshments throughout
  • Lots of chances to take photos of your progress along the way

What's included:

  • 2-hour hands-on workshop with former Canadian Latte Art Champion Venice Vallega
  • All equipment provided (cups, pitchers, espresso, milk, everything)
  • Snacks and refreshments
  • A bag of specialty coffee to take home
  • Good vibes, guaranteed

FAQ

*Do I need any coffee or barista experience? Not even a little. Venice starts from scratch. If you've never touched an espresso machine in your life, you're exactly who this class is for.

*Do I need to bring anything? Nothing at all, everything is provided. Just wear something comfortable and bring your curiosity!

*Will I actually get to pour? Absolutely, and many times. This is a doing class, not a watching class. You'll be on the machine with Venice right there guiding you through every step.

*Is this a good gift? One of the best. And for the record, it makes an incredible date idea too. There's something about making coffee together that's just... a good time.

*What if I'm terrible at it? Then you'll be terrible at it alongside everyone else who showed up on their very first day, coached by someone who has competed at the world level. You'll leave better than you arrived. That's the whole point.

*What if I'm running late? We'll hold the start for up to 15 minutes, but the class will begin at 1:15 PM at the latest regardless, out of respect for everyone who showed up on time. Plan accordingly!

Getting here:

Augusta Lab is located in Kensington Market. Parking in the neighbourhood is limited, especially on weekends, so we recommend leaving extra time or taking transit. The Spadina and College streetcars both drop you close by and are honestly the easiest option.

Refund Policy:

Full refunds are available up to 5 days before the event. After that, we are unable to offer refunds due to the very limited number of seats and the preparation that goes into each class.
