Laughing Liberally Greenville is teaming up with Indivisible Upstate SC, the SC chapter of the ACLU, and Chief Laugh Officer Bex Miller to stage an edutainment series blending comedy, camaraderie, and practical civic know-how. This first show in the series features a fun-filled happy hour and comedy show highlighting local standup comics, crowd favorite LOLIGARCHY improv games, and a surprise guest or two. The evening’s broad theme is VOTING—so expect a li’l learnin’ to sneak up on you in between belly laughs!
WARNING! This event may cause uncontrollable laughter, excessive civic enthusiasm, spontaneous political motivation, and an alarming desire to discuss local government with friends, family, and strangers. Side effects may include yelling “HELL YEAH!” at inappropriate volumes, brain-enhancing insight, renewed hope, and a sudden urge to drag your friends along to the next show.
The Where+When
Tucked just twelve steps below street level at the corner of Main and Coffee Streets in downtown Greenville, Coffee Underground is a cozy, locally owned café, restaurant, and performance venue. Over its more than three decades of operation, the establishment has become a Greenville landmark. There's an intimate 60-seat theatre in the back.
Parking: Greenville has about 700 free on-street spaces downtown, so grab your luck and sense of adventure and go hunting! No patience? Richardson Street Garage (3–5 min walk) and South Spring Street Garage (4-6 min walk) are nearby.
5:30 pm
Arrive around 5 or 5:30 to grab dinner or a snack or a drink (or three) before the show. Visit the main café counter to place your order, then head for The Gallery to join fellow audience members and meetup hosts Indivisible Upstate SC and ACLU-SC. You'll find the curtained room in the back, on the left just before the double doors to the theatre.
6:50 pm
Doors open to the show. Have your pre-purchased e-ticket printed out or pulled up on your phone and ready to show the volunteer manning the door. Seats are first come, first served; some seats are reserved for performers and volunteers but will be labeled clearly.
7:00 pm
IMPORTANT: This is the deadline to scan your ticket! Our shows typically sell out and we often have people waiting for a chance to get in. If you or a member of your party is a no-show by this time, your ticket will be forfeited and offered to someone on the waiting list at the venue.
7:10 pm
After a brief welcome, we’ll hand the reins to our talented performers featuring local comedic talent and our own LOLIGARCHY improv games! There’ll be a brief intermission around 8:15 pm, and the show will end around 9:15 pm.

Q. What type of entertainment can I expect to see at your shows?
A. We’re essentially a variety show and book all kinds of lighthearted politics-related acts. LOLIGARCHY political improv anchors every show—revolving games, performers, and audience suggestions ensure that no two shows are ever the same. On top of that, you may see standup comics, sketch comedy, music…. we’ll surprise you!
Q. Is the show family-friendly?
A. Our content targets a politically aware, left-leaning audience aged 18+. Younger teens are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian.
Q. Are tickets available to the public at the door the night of your show?
A. No. Laughing Liberally Greenville is a carefully curated private event in which we nurture a safe space for “blue dots” in our red state. Additionally, since we’ve sold out every show, it’s unlikely seats will be available that night. There's no guarantee, but it's possible that a few tickets will be offered to those who sign up for a waiting list at the venue that evening.
Q. Are you affiliated with a political party?
A. No. We are left-leaning but nonpartisan.
Q. Do proceeds go to a charity, political candidate, or activist organization?
A. No, our chapter license doesn't allow us to fundraise or endorse political candidates. 100% of our proceeds go toward operating expenses. Performers and organizers are all volunteers because we believe in what we bring to the community.
Q. Do you give refunds if I’m unable to attend?
A. Tickets are non-refundable but fully transferable. If you can’t attend, simply forward your e-ticket to surprise a friend! You're also welcome to forward it to greenville@laughingliberally.org and we'll gift it on your behalf.
