1 Bishop StreetThe Rituals for Earthly Survival creative team warmly invite you to join us for the launch of our 2024 We Shine project.
“Rituals for Earthly Survival” fuses UK and Japanese arts, spotlighting Butoh, fostering cultural exchange, and promoting mutual understanding through community arts performances and workshops with Japanese Butoh artist Yumino Seki in partnership with sonic artist Rusty Sheriff and video artist Kim Balouch.
The project will work towards a 3 day audiovisual installation and immersive experience to be staged at Treadgolds Building as part of We Shine, in November 2024.
The project invites local artists from a range of practices to join us on this journey and to contribute to the creation of a ritual performance that celebrates the deep connection between people and nature.

2.00: welcome, networking and refreshments – meet the team and other contributing artists
2.20: Introduction and project briefing with Roy Hanney
2.40: Improvised Butoh performance with Yumino Seki, Rusty Sheriff and Kim Balouch, responding to the theme of ‘ritual’
3.10: short break for further networking and refreshments
3.20: Theory of Change workshop – share your goals for the project with the team
4.00: Q&A with Yumino Seki – everything you ever needed to know about Butoh
4:30: break for final networking and one-to-one Q&A with artists

Kino Kult CIC is an audiovisual arts and live cinema collective operating in Portsmouth, UK, on the south cast. The collective has been operating in and around the city since 2004.
