Class description:  Join Marilee Mortenson as she teaches about spacing of letters and words: why it matters, how letter shapes play a role, and how knowing this can improve your lettering.  This is a skill-building workshop; it will not result in a completed project.


Class level:  All levels of painting skill welcome.


Medium being used :  Pen, pencil/highlighter, and paint of choice.  Students can use other mediums of their choice.

Other mediums allowed: Not applicable.

Note about supplies: The class fee does not include the cost of supplies and is the responsiblity of the student. If the instructor is sending supplies, the cost and details will be included in this section.


Instructor:  Marilee Mortenson


Instructor biography:  Marilee has been rosemaling since 2010 and she has done calligraphy off and on since the 1980s.  She is passionate about the beauty of lettering with pen and brush.  As a born information gatherer, she also loves to glean techniques from others and pass them along.  In 2022 she began to share what she’s learned about lettering with other rosemalers.


Location:  This is an online class hosted on Zoom.  All technical requirements needed to join the class are the responsibility of the student. RCC virtual classes will not be recorded. All classes are listed in the Central time zone.

Rosemaling Coast to Coast, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organized to celebrate the art of Norwegian rosemaling through a national organization that supports and enriches the artistic activities of the individual. Members study, paint, teach, and promote the love of rosemaling. The skillset is broad, from beginners to highly-skilled, award-winning artists.
