Description
Flying Squid is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of Aaron Posner’s critically acclaimed play, "Life Sucks," directed by Ginny Simmons. The show will run from July 12-14. In this fast-paced reworking of Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya,” a group of old friends, ex-lovers, estranged in-laws, and lifelong enemies gather to grapple with life’s most complex questions and with each other. What could possibly go wrong?
Posner’s loose but loving adaptation infuses the timeless story with brashness, humor, raw emotion, and contemporary relevance, offering a humane perspective on the complexities of life, love, friendship, and folly. The play, written in 2018, has been variously described as “profoundly humane,” “hilarious,” “quirky,” and “pure bliss.”
Director Ginny Simmons brings her extensive theatrical experience to this production. Under her direction, audiences can expect an evening filled with laughter, poignancy, and reflection on the human condition. The ensemble cast features Richard Cheney, Steve Elliott-Gower, Lauren Chase, Audey Lee, Jeremy Leighton Miller, Jessica Mickey, and Julia Roessing who play the seven souls colliding and stumbling their way to new understandings of love and life.
Life sucks sometimes, but this production will bring audiences unalloyed joy.
*This play is intended for adult audiences. It contains strong language and simulated gunfire.*
