Lillian van Veen (b. Seattle, 2003) is an artist working in painting, soft sculpture, and video. Their work explores bodily control, gendered expectations, and embodiment, drawing from a personal archive of vestigial garments. They are interested in the use of clothing as a tool for social signaling, and in pursuing continued relationships with disparate parts of the self through the reimagining of garments as art objects, and art objects as garments. Their work is informed greatly by queer masculinity.
