Description

In-person

This Jane’s Walk, taking place in Little 5 Points, focuses on themes of history and culture.

Step back to the late 1800s when Atlanta's trolley car sparked growth in Inman and Candler Park. Little 5 Points (L5P), designated a commercial area in the 1920s, thrived as an avant-garde arts hub. Facing economic decline in the 1960s, L5P found renewed hope in 1975 with city grants, leading to a vibrant resurgence.

Join Don Bender and Kelly Jordan, longtime community developers, on a historical tour, exploring architectural wonders and legacy businesses. The Little 5 Points Community Center, once a school, is now a vital community hub. Variety Playhouse, revived by Don and Kelly in the '70s, remains a cultural landmark. 7 Stages, shaped by their renovations, stands as a cornerstone for avant-garde performances.

Discover L5P Corner Tavern and hidden gems, embodying the lasting impact of Kelly and Don’s dedication. In the 70s and 80s, they not only preserved the neighborhood's character but also saved it from a proposed highway that threatened its existence. Their tireless efforts stopped the road from coming through, leaving a lasting legacy.

About Jane's Walk

Jane’s Walk is an annual global festival honoring the legacy of urbanist, activist, and writer Jane Jacobs with free, citizen-led walking tours through the neighborhoods that lend so much character to our cities.

The festival promotes civic engagement and encourages leaders and participants to share stories about their communities and use walking as a means of connecting with their neighbors.

About the Leaders of This Walk

KDon Bender and Kelly Jordan are both longtime community developers of Little 5 Points. Through their efforts in the 70s and 80s, the neighborhood we love today was successfully preserved (and given so much character).
