Share in the lights of Chanukah with tastes and sounds of Zimbabwe and Cameroon!
We will hear from Modreck Maeresera, a Lemba Jew and the current president of the Harare Lemba Synagogue in Zimbabwe and musician David Baliba from Cameroon. David Baliaba, a singer from Cameroon, uses traditional and current African themes in his music because his parents instilled in him the importance of staying with his origins.
ABOUT OUR GUESTS:
Modreck Maeresera, Lemba Jew, is the current president of the Harare Lemba Synagogue in Zimbabwe. The Harare Lemba Synagogue is a synagogue for Lemba Jews in Harare, founded in May 2013 with sponsorship from Kulanu.
Modreck is married to Brenda and they are proud parents to 3 children, Aviv Yehudah, Shlomo Makomborero, and Maya Miriam. Modreck holds a diploma in journalism from the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM) in the UK. He works as a student recruiter for Malaysian universities.
David Baliaba, a singer from Cameroon, uses traditional and current African themes in his music because his parents instilled in him the importance of staying with his origins.
David started his solo career in 2002 with the recording of his first album entitled "Saint Saint Saint.” His next album in 2012, “Bana ba Mbono,” sung in his mother tongue, showcases the rich culture of his Grand Mbam heritage.
David has won awards for his musical talents and is now more present on the national music scene and certainly internationally.
