Too tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country, Lynne Hanson’s brand of porch music with a little red dirt can turn on a dime from a sunshine, blue sky ballad to a full on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. Her hard living music has garnered her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana.” And while her deep, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart. The two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner is known for her high energy, roots guitar driven live performances, whether playing solo or with her band the Good Intentions. She has an uncanny way of connecting with her audience with an authenticity that is as entertaining as it is disarming. The prolific songwriter has released eight studio albums along with two books of poetry over her 16 year solo career. She’s toured extensively across North America, Europe and the UK. She has also toured as support for Grammy-nominated artists like Gretchen Peters, Steve Forbert and Albert Lee.

 

Canadian artist Emma Lamontagne landed a single’s deal in 2016, after winning Ottawa Bluesfest’s She’s The One contest. She recorded “I Don’t Sleep” with songwriter/producer Robyn Dell’Unto, which racked up close to half-million streams.

Just out of high school, she released “Love Games” and “The Art of Reality,” then her 2019 debut full-length, Uncomfortable Eye Contact. After earning an audio engineering degree and building a home studio, Emma is back with a new sound: lyric-focused folk-pop.

Her music now reflects the maturity she's gained as a 23-year-old, but she can never get away from writing about dating and her onstage banter is hilarious. Go see her live for yourself.

Red Bird is an intimate, 80 capacity music venue with excellent sound and sight lines from every seat.

We are licensed and have a selection of locally crafted beers and ciders plus a small but fine selections of wine and spirits. 

We also carry a selection of non-alcoholic beverages such as locally made sodas and non-alcoholic beers, and a small menu of snack foods such as pressed sandwiches, hot dogs, soft pretzels and pastries.

Unless otherwise noted, all shows are all ages. Everyone must have a ticket, regardless of age. 

Doors open one hour ahead of the performance time. 

Parking is available at the south end of our building and on side streets (please be respectful of parking restrictions).

Regrettably, our space is not accessible. There are six gradual and wide steps to our front door with railings on each side. Once inside, everything is on one floor including an accessible washroom.
